GO GREEN DPS! – DPS-MIS environmental event shines at ICC Community Fair
“Service before self” is the motto of DPS, and that is exactly what was followed while they competed at the “Project 5S - Struggle for Sustainable Development and to Save the Environment” – an inter-school competition initiated by the Institution of Engineers (India), Qatar Chapter. The Qatar based environmental competition for Indian schools was recently held at the Indian Community Fair conducted by The Indian Community Centre.

The competition comprised the following activities -

  • the selling of reusable textbooks and storybooks (donated by students of classes 1 to 11) to the general public, DPS staff, parents and students
  • ‘Use-of-Waste’ exhibition of utility objects made by Junior Wing students in their activity classes
  • Environmental Science projects demonstrating creation of sustainable technology by Senior Wing students, and,
  • the Environmental Awareness Campaign initiated by Senior Wing students in the form of
    • Audio-visual presentation on Climate Change - Mitigation and Adaptation
    • Film on Environmental initiatives taken by DPS-MIS
    • an Environmental Quiz to spread awareness at the venue
  • Students of Classes 5 to 11 interacted with the visitors and answered queries with confidence

The Prefectorial Body (of Class 11) were at their organizational best, never failing to help around whenever required. And, through their ‘hands-on’ proactive approach, the coordinators and teachers instilled a sense of responsibility from the grassroot level and everybody pitched in to make the entire endeavour a resounding success.
Team DPS-MIS team performed brilliantly, selling around 8000 books and showcasing presentations and projects by the students of the entire school – right from Class Prep to Class 11. Principal Ms. Asna Nafees congratulated the team for their cohesiveness and successful effort. At the venue, the efforts of the team were applauded by all, including the judges as well as the esteemed HE Mr. Sanjeev Arora, the Ambassador of India to the State of Qatar.
