Qatar Toastmasters’ Club had organised the Qatar Open Youth Public Speaking Championship in June 2010, for the students of age group 13 to 18 years. 51 students of various schools in Qatar had participated in this event. There were two rounds of elimination. The topic for the first round was: “When you wake up in the morning you have two choices: to go back to your dreams or get up and chase your dreams.” 21 students were selected for the second round and were asked to speak on the topic: “Do not follow where the path may lead; instead carve your own path and leave a trail.”

Finally 10 students were selected for the Grand Finale. We were asked to speak on any topic of our choice. There was a panel of 10 Distinguished Toastmasters as judges for this event. I spoke on the topic: “Unleash Your Potential To The Fullest With A Deep Sense Of Gratitude.” The competition was very fierce as each and every finalist gave his/her best shot. The sister and brother duo of Doha College won the Champion’s and First Runner Up trophy respectively. I was extremely thrilled to win the Second Runner Up trophy and a Samsung Corby cell phone. Qatar Open was an enriching experience for me and this event will always have a special place in my heart. I really want to strive hard to bring more laurels for my school!!!
