High on Hong Kong !

At the senior wing of DPS-MIS, seventy students and nine teachers are currently under the spell of Hong Kong which was the destination of the school’s annual overseas trip plan for 2008-09.

This was the second batch of the students leaving for the trip. Throughout the trip, students and teachers were exposed to many nuances of the Chinese culture, cuisine and crafts that strongly influence Hong Kong. Students also witnessed the peaceful synergy between modernity and tradition.

As we crisscrossed the islands of Hong Kong through roads, bridges and tunnels - one of which was built under the seabed – we saw tall high-rises, state-of-the art transportation systems everywhere. Yet, nestled in the midst of the modern world, there were pockets of old world charm -horse-racing tracks, ancient walled settlements, traditional places of worship and busy market-places. There were many landmarks that reminded us of Hong Kong’s British legacy too.

Each place we visited offered unique and truly unforgettable learning experiences. Whether it was the breathtaking cable car rides or the panoramic view of the harbour from Victoria Peak, whether it was tranquil environs of Po Lin Buddhist monastery or the absolutely magnificent Giant Buddha, every attraction was a treat for the senses.

The day at Disney World brought out the child in everyone. Disney World transported us to the land of fairies and fantasies. While the brave enjoyed the thrilling roller-coasters, others were content with the Disney Parade, enchanting stage shows and enjoyable rides. Fireworks at Cinderella’s castle brought the day to a magical end.

After five eventful days at Hong Kong, the group has returned to Doha with loads of multi-cultural experiences, photographs, mementoes and a few words of Chinese too! Do Jeh !
