Senior School Investiture Ceremony 2014-2015

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

- John C.Maxwell

They are the crème-de-le-crème, the forerunners, the torch-bearers, the leaders who have been hand-picked to uphold the ideals and the motto of the school. They have been singled-out to provide guidance to their peers and juniors and to help the teachers and the other authorities in the smooth running of the school. They are the newly appointed, charismatic and stellar members of the DPS-Modern Indian School Prefectorial Council of 2014-15. These new enthusiastic leaders from grade XI and XII were elected after an intense campaign, tough interviews and finally voting in a fair and democratic manner.

In order to invest the newly appointed senior wing Prefectorial Council of 2014-15 with powers and responsibilities the ‘Investiture Ceremony’ was organized on May 22, 2014 in the DPS-MIS auditorium at 5:30PM. Preparations for this much awaited day began well in advance. The big day itself saw a spate of hectic preparations for the event. There was an air of expectancy and excitement in the air.

The program was graced by the Chief Guest Mr. Dinesh Udenia-First Secretary-Press & Education, Embassy of India, Mr. Hassan Chougule-President, DPS-MIS, members of DPS-MIS Management Committee Mr. Harish Kanjani-Director Administration, Mr. Sonny Varghese- Director Public Relations, other distinguished guests, proud parents, teachers and the aspiring leaders.

The event began with Ms. Mou Bera, Headmistress-Activities welcoming the gathering. The programme, which was then conducted ably by Krupa Modi and Saurabh Kadam Presidents-Activities(2013-14) began with the recitation of a few verses from the Holy Quran by Mstr. Amar Ahmed and the same were rendered in English by Ms. Aliya Ansari . The middle school choir then put forth a splendid performance thereby proving that music is the shorthand of emotions and where words fail music speaks. Through their rendition of the school song the ideals, aims and aspirations of the school were duly reflected.

Principal Ms. Asna Nafees, motivated and encouraged the students to dream big and aspire high. She advised the students to follow their hearts and gave them the example of Narayan Krishnan, the founder of the Akshaya Trust who had given up a lucrative job in Switzerland to help the poor and homeless. She congratulated the teachers and the parents who helped the students develop their leadership skills.
Mr.Hassan Chougule,President-DPS-MIS, ever ready to inspire and motivate did just that in his address. He advised the students to follow the example of the newly elected Indian P.M and think about the greater good and not individual interests while discharging their duties. He also congratulated the students and the teachers for the excellent performance of class X in the CBSE board exams.
The Chief guest for the evening, Mr.Dinesh Udenia enthralled the audience with his stories and riddles. He congratulated the new leaders and also gave them valuable advice on how to be a good leader.
Mr.Sonny Varghese, Director, Public Relations also imparted some pearls of wisdom to the excited group of new leaders. He told them to turn their adversities into opportunities.

The newly elected members were given certificates and decorated with sashes by the chief guest and the other dignitaries. It was indeed a splendid and emotional experience to watch the new council members march smartly up on to the stage, stand upright with their heads held high and receive their mantle of responsibility. The young parliamentarians were then administered the oath of office wherein they pledged to abide by the school rules to fulfill their duties according to their respective portfolios to the best of their abilities.

With new responsibilities placed on their firm shoulders, newly appointed Head Boy- Ajay Menon(XII-B) and Head Girl Agnes Sharan (XII-A)delivered their maiden speech as the they took charge of their duties and assured all of their commitment to the school motto of ‘service before self’ and with a difference!
A breathtaking dance performance by the middle school students was another highlight of the event. Vote of thanks was proposed by the newly elected President-Activities Nikita Bhattacharjee (XII F) and Sparsh Arora(XII A). The program ended with the National Anthem.

The ceremony gave the parents a chance to develop a deeper appreciation for their children and greater respect for the school.
The school extends its best wishes to the new Council.
