10th Annual Career Counselors HUB 2024
Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), founded by Qatar Foundation (QF), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, U.S. Embassy Doha, and QF Student Life Department, hosted the “Career Counselors Hub 2024” on 24th and 25th of September 2024 at Education City, inviting counselors from various Indian and International schools across Qatar. Dr. Deepika, Career Counselor and Faculty of English, from DPS Modern Indian School, represented the school in this Hub which offered insightful learning experiences focused on enhancing career counseling practices. Key sessions included guidance on showcasing student accomplishments effectively and writing compelling personal statements—both essential components for college applications, a session on Showcasing Accomplishments: Discussing Extracurricular Activities in University Applications by Alena Savitskaya, Minerva University, San Francisco and Crafting an Effective Personal Statement: Key Considerations and Common Pitfalls by Camille Watson, Baylor University. A significant highlight was the session on Transforming College Counseling with AI: Unlocking New Possibilities by Jacqueline L. Nottingham, Academic Bridge Program, which explored how technology can be leveraged to better support students in identifying career paths and making informed decisions.
Another critical topic covered was the International Student Services by Greta Carlson, INTO University Partnerships, which provided a comprehensive overview of the key deadlines, from application submissions to the visa process to pathway program, helping counselors prepare students well in advance.
The forum concluded with an engaging panel discussion on bridging the gap between school counseling and college admissions. Panelists were Noura Al Kuwari, Wadih Abou Aziz and Suha Rabah. Experts shared strategies on how to ensure a smoother transition for students, addressing concerns like aligning school resources with the expectations of higher education institutions. This discussion emphasized the importance of collaboration between schools and colleges to better equip students for their academic journeys. Overall, the session helped gain valuable knowledge that will enrich career counseling practices and help guide students more effectively.
